Today Microsoft has officially announced Zune 2.
The new Zune comes in two flash version, offering 4GB or 8GB of storage, and a 80GB HDD version. All of the players will have wireless sync capabilities, updated wireless sharing, an FM tuner, and the ability to display music, pictures, videos and podcasts. The previous controls have been replaced by a touch sensitive pad that allows users to navigate through the menus either by brushing or by clicking. Zune 4GB and Zune 8GB have a 1.8 inch screen, and will retail for $149.99, respectively $199.99. Zune 80GB has a 3.2 inch screen at $249.99.
It looks slick, the interface seems to be great and it’s priced just like the ipod … all in all, a great product that can easily compete with the ipod once the Zune Marketplace will get video content. What’s also great is that the first generation Zune will soon have all the features of the new generation with a simple firmware upgrade.
Apple should probably watch out and stop overestimating the brand loyalty of their customers or they might end up like Sony and their PS3.
tuxmachines.org … collective delusion September 26, 2007

If you have used Linux or had something to do with it, then you’ve probably stumbled upon tuxmachines.org. The website is dedicated to collecting informations about Linux and the phenomena related to Linux. You might think that’s ok, and it would be ok … but the website is not really about that.
90% of the articles they link to are total crap. You can’t even call them articles, they have no technical or literary value whatsoever. Most are simple blog post written by idiots that dream with their eyes wide shut to the moment when Linux will be the operating system of choice for desktop users. Some are even lamer than this, they actually think that nowadays Linux matters on the desktop.
To give just one example, two weeks ago according to w3counter Linux surpassed Windows 98 in market share. Of course, this was a proud headline on tuxmachines and the article soon had over 1000 votes on digg. The funny think is that the idiots didn’t even checked to see the big picture. Actually, Linux did not gain any market share, Windows 98 lost users. The digg-tards are actually enthusiastic and they already set the next target for their beloved operating system … believe it or not … they want to outmatch Windows Vista.
Everyday on tuxmachines you can read really cool news. You have about 3 articles about switching from Windows to Ubuntu and how great the experience was. Then you have about 2 articles that bash Windows and any other products that have anything to do with Microsoft … after all, you know what they say “It’s called Linux. It pronounced not Windows.” Next there are about 2 or 3 reviews of different Linux distributions in which they praise important revolutionary changes like a new wallpaper and they show the magnificent XGL cube to prove that Linux can do eye candy. There’s also the daily article about how Linux will conquer the world. The rest of the links point to articles in which Linux developers and users attack each other in the holly war of distros, basically a “mine is bigger than yours” contest … relax guys you all have small dicks. After 15 years of giving away your operating system you still have less than 1.5% of the market share.
Want to know why? It’s easy … Linux as a desktop operating system is absolute crap, in 2007 it barely offers more functionality than Windows 98. Windows Vista and Mac OSX are beautiful, functional and easy to use. Compare the font rendering in Vista to that in any Linux distribution. Compare the messy Gnome/KDE to the elegant interface of OSX. Compare the powerful control panel of Windows to KDE’s Control Center. More importantly compare the professional applications available for Windows and OSX to the cheap non-ergonomic and feature impaired products available for Linux (e.g. Adobe Photoshop CS3 vs GIMP).
Make the effort to read the stupidities posted on tuxmachines.org everyday … it’s going to be a fun, but deeply disturbing experience. You’ll laugh as you’ll find out how great Linux is, but you’ll also come to realize that Linux zealots are not just fanboys that care about a software products, they are actually living a collective delusion with no real basis.
Full of It … bad movie, good point September 26, 2007

There’s this movie I’ve watched yesterday. It’s called “Full of It“. It’s bad; it’s based on exactly the same stereotypes like all the other teen movies you’ve seen, the same beginning, the same ending, the same characters. It’s not even a funny comedy. It’s just dull.

The movie is about Sam, a short 17-year old kid that tries to fit in a new high school by lying in order to impress the popular kids. He’s lame, but he does make a really good point. Here’s the talk he has with his parents:
Dad: You know the meeting rules. Nothing but the truth. Now, why have you been lying?
Sam: You guys have no idea how hard it is out-there. I’m down in the trenches everyday day trying to make people actually like me … and do you know how embarrassing it is having my entire family drop me out to school in that piece of crap car, kissing and hugging you like some sort of baby? Do you?
Mom: Sam, what ca we do to help?
Sam: Nothing!
Mom: Look, Sam, honey if you could just explain to us why you lied?
Sam: Because lying works. People actually like me when I lie.
Dad: No, Sam. You’ve got to be yourself. People will love you.
Sam: Dad, cute it. That’s the biggest lie of all. Being yourself works great if you’re actually great, but what if you’re a massive loser like me?
Dad: Ok, that is it. No more lying! End of story!
Sam: No! Not end of story. My life sucks and lying is the only thing that makes it better. That’s why I lied today, that’s why I’m gonna lie tomorrow and that’s why there’s nothing anyone can do to stop me.
He’s right. The biggest lie of all is telling someone that he’s great even if he’s not. If you’re a loser nobody’s going to like you for who you really are and if you think about it, why would they? After all, you can’t expect them to willingly embrace your mediocrity. So, if you’re a loser and you get the chance to start over in a place where nobody knows who you are … then lie. Redefine yourself by lying, anything that will make you less of a loser is good for you.
